It’s that time of year again, college students from all over the country are either returning to classes or starting them for the first time as Freshmen.
While many students will be staying on campus, just as many will be renting nearby apartments and commuting to campus every day. Moving away from home is a big deal and it can be easy to overlook some things when packing for the move, just to realize how much they really need them. Fortunately, we’ve put together a great list of must haves for college students moving into a new apartment.
Extra phone chargers
Make sure when you move into a new apartment that you have a few extra phone chargers with you. Nothing seems to go missing more frequently or at the worst possible time than a phone charger.
Bonus tip: Get a 6-foot or longer charger so you’re not glued to the wall while your phone charges.
Whether it’s a study session or a weekend party, you don’t always know who’s been sitting on your furniture. Keep a bottle of fabric refresher handy to keep your apartment smelling fresh and clean. You can even use fabric refresher to keep your clothes smelling fresh if you pulled an all nighter working on homework and forgot to wash your favorite shirt. We certainly won't tell.
Disinfectant wipes are the perfect cleaning tool for quickly wiping down desks, laptops, and kitchen or bathroom counters. Be sure to grab a few packs to keep in your apartment for when you need to clean up in a pinch.
Owning a personal fan is very underrated, especially if you have roommates. If you and your roommates are having a hard time agreeing on a common thermostat temperature, just take out your personal fan to keep cool! For some people, the extra white noise from a personal fan helps them to fall asleep faster.
For similar reasons as owning a personal fan, it’s a great idea to keep a space heater on hand for when you and your roommates can’t agree on a comfortable temperature.
It’s no secret that things can get a little smelly when it comes to college roommates. Buying a scented plugin can go a long way in eliminating various odors from you or your roomies. An advantage of using scented plugins instead of candles is that you don’t have to remember to blow them out before you leave for the day!
It’s happened to everyone; you go to get that shirt or pair of jeans before heading out for the day and you realize they’re quite wrinkly. Without an iron, you may be forced to take a creative approach to steaming out the wrinkles. In case you've never done that before, you can create a makeshift sauna by turning on a hot shower while your clothes hang on the bathroom door. It’s not the most efficient use of your time, so remember to pack or purchase an iron to keep in your apartment!
While a power strip may not seem necessary now, you’ll be surprised at how quickly the outlets in your apartment get used up. Owning a power strip with some extra outlets will come in handy when you have several people charging their phones and computers while also watching TV and maybe running a fan. You can never have too many outlets!
